New Genesis is an annual Film Festival led by students and graduates, creating a space to support students, graduates and young independent artists, who might not have the tools to showcase their work. While we don’t have the resources to fund student projects, many students have the resources to create their films independently while studying, and just need a better way to distribute them rather than on sites such as YouTube which doesn't help to gain much recognition. What we can offer is a viewing experience of each of these films on a cinema screen as one back to back playlist event. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hard work of students, graduates and young artists, to industry professionals, as well as friends and family. As film enthusiasts, as well as creatives, we know our favourite place to watch a film is at the cinema. we host a 2-3 hour annual event at a local Brighton cinema in which students, graduates and young creatives can apply to showcase their work, inviting friends and family to celebrate their work.

How do we manage costs?

In 2024, New Genesis Film Festival showcased some films that contained themes around Mental Health, this made us dedicated to raising awareness around the stigmas associated with Mental Health, due to this we made New Genesis 2024, a charity event to raise money for MIND UK. The showcase event took place at ODEON Brighton, and as their main sponsored charity is MIND they were the perfect choice for us to partner with. This meant we were able to sell ticket prices at a cheaper rate, whilst also being able to support the vital work of MIND. Meaning all profits went straight to supporting MIND UK
